Brunei  booze lost

by Peter Titze

For security reason liquids are now off limits on airplanes or have to be placed in the check in luggage.  But there is still an exemption from this rule in regards to "duty free shopping"  You can still buy your booze and it is placed in a clear plastic back and sealed. This way you can carry it around and even change flights s long as you stay in the transit area. At least that is how I experienced it so far.

Except this does not work in Brunei. Your booze gets confiscated. I lost a nice Cognac I had just purchased at Manila airport and numerous other passenger also lost the duty free shopping. There was one Italian guy who had changed prior to Brunei even 2 times without any problems (In Frankfurt & Bangkok)

I am particularly upset about it because I inquired with Royal Brunei airlines transit desk and was told 'No problem" but the security people had a different opinion. If I would have given the correct information I could have found a box and checked it in as additional luggage since my stop  in Brunei lasted several hours.

BTW. There is no beer or liquor available at Brunei airport.
