Cancun Mexico money gone

Generally I consider  the place as a tourist trap and naturally the police wants to get a slice of the cake.

Driving down Mexico highway 307 towards Cancun the road has a speed limit of 70 km per hour. When you reach Cancun this will change to 50km and is prominently displayed by a sign indicating this speed limit. The only problem this sign is hidden behind a large van (properly the police is the one who parked it there) so  unless you know it is there it's invisible and after a short row of parked cars comes a stretch where there is a no parking sign and that is where the police is waiting for the ignorant tourist. In a snap  "Relax amigo"  $ 50.- (US) is gone. No receipt issued of course.
